Modern Nutrition in Health and Nursing

The 10th edition (50th anniversary edition) of the above title published by Lippincott, Williams and Wilkins, has just arrived and been catalogued for the library--Ref QP141 .M64 2006. In one of the appendices, websites of interest are provided, though no annotation. Interested in "Nutrition and aging information?" Try the National resource Center on Nutrition, Physical Activity and Aging http://nutritionandaging.fiu.edu/ which "... promotes active healthy aging by working to reduce nutrition risk among older adults, especially minorities with health disparities. The goals are to support quality of life, improve functionality, promote independence, and decrease early nursing home admissions and hospitalizations, through better nutrition..."

In Part VI. Diet and Nutrition in Health of Populations, there several intriguing chapter titles, such as "Sports nutrition," "Social and cultural influences on food consumption and nutritional status," "Fads, frauds, and quackery," and "Alternative nutrition therapies."

Another chapter in another section is entitled "Designing functional foods." Food for thought?
